Designing with a true sense of place lies at the heart of our approach. We never replicate spaces; instead, every garden is thoughtfully conceived as a unique response to your aspirations, the character of the site, and its surrounding landscape.

Our team are involved directly throughout the design process as well as throughout the complete garden build. With your input, we will plan your space, undertake the drawings and be on the project every step of the way. That’s something that’s very important in our approach.

Your garden—and the way you use and experience it—is deeply personal, and this is something we genuinely respect. For that reason, we work closely with each client to create considered designs that are entirely bespoke, thoughtfully tailored to you and your way of living.

Our Vision & Ethos

The Design & Process

The early stages of any project are vital so that both you and us here at Sense Landscapes are completely clear on what’s needed to create exactly what you want.

Design

While we offer a design-only service, we most often work with our clients to provide a seamless design and construction experience, guiding projects from initial concept through to completion. Whether you need a comprehensive garden layout or design solutions for a specific area, we tailor our service to meet your individual requirements with care and attention to detail.

Every garden we design is informed by our extensive hands-on experience in garden construction. We bring practical insight to the design stage—what is drawn on paper is already being envisioned in three dimensions. From the initial consultation, through sketching and detailed design, to the final presentation, we design with a clear understanding of what it takes to bring the garden to life, giving our clients complete confidence as they move into the construction phase.

The Process

On initial contact

Following your enquiry, our first step is to discuss your project with you. We’ll ask key questions to understand your vision for the garden and how you plan to use the space, ensuring our approach is tailored to your needs from the outset.

It’s also a chance for you to share any ideas you already have for your garden, talk through your preferred timeline for design and build, and for us to give you a sense of who we are and how we work.

The early design process and concepts

The next stage begins with a visit to your property, where we carry out a detailed garden survey and discuss a design proposal crafted specifically for you and your project. This is a particularly valuable stage, as it gives us the chance to spend time together in your garden, explore early ideas, and gain a true understanding of how you want to use and experience the space.

Using the insights gathered during our time in your garden, we return to the drawing board to develop concept designs. These are then presented to you with supporting plans and sketches, along with carefully considered suggestions for materials and planting, allowing you to clearly visualise the early concepts for your new garden.

Detailed design

Once the concepts have been explored, we create a detailed design of your proposed garden, accompanied by sketches and visualisations that bring your ideas to life. This stage allows you to see exactly how your garden will be transformed, giving a real sense of the space to come.

The Build

Once the final design for your garden has been agreed, we move on to discussing the build in detail. We’ll meet in person to review every aspect of the project, covering key details such as logistics, access, and waste management. You will also receive all the necessary information, including a clear programme of works and a payment schedule for your approval.

This is an exciting stage—your vision is about to become a reality, and we’re one step closer to creating your dream garden.
